Nice recycle item, but you did not explain how to make the hole for the cord in the base of the bottle....also, I think that it needs some ballest for stability, doesn't it?
I was wondering about how to make a hole in a glass bottle as well. You need an electric drill and the proper drill bit for glass cutting. I found this on youtube and it's pretty helpful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qr5x63awf1c
If you look closely at the pictures, you'll see that in this DIY the cord extends out from the socket area and runs down the back of the outside of the bottle, which would explain the absence of instructions for drilling a hole at the bottom. I am personally not crazy about having the cord stick out near the socket, but it seems to me to be a better option than having it run though a transparent lamp base like this one. I see it done that way frequently in clear glass lamp bases available in stores, and I always feel that the cord distracts from the overall aesthetics of the lamp.
I've tried to cut the glass for art projects made out of wine bottles and it is very difficult. Plan to break a lot of bottles in the process. After trying, the cord out of the lamp socket appeals to me
BUT does the socket fit flush/snug to the top of the wine bottle and does not tilt once placed inside the bottle?? Does this call for any extra adhesive, etc.?
